Cinematic Summer

Jun 23, 2012 -- 1:16pm

Summer, summer, summertime!

'Tis the season, the season of the "Hollywood Blockbuster". Yes, we're about to inundated with the releases of over-hyped, over-priced, over-produced pieces of cinematic shhh....  However, there is an alternative to Hollywood's lack of imagination. It's in the form of the Palm Springs International Short Film Festival.

This Sunday, we bring two filmmakers to the 'Last Call' studios. First, what's a teenager like Phil to do? He's in the park one day when he gets hit on by one of his fellow male classmates. Phil gently turns down his advances, only to be taunted and bullied by said classmate the very next day. Perplexing? Yes! Director Dominic Haxton joins us to discuss his short film 'Teens Like Phil'. This film might have you quoting Shakespeare, "Methinks the lady doth protest too much".

Second, what's a girl like Shirin to do? She's a girl having dinner with her father; a tense, awkward dinner. Shirin only wants to fit in, much to the chagrin of her father who isn't too happy with her gradual assimilation into British culture. Director Stephen Fingleton joins us for a discussion of this short feature. This is one for anybody who has ever felt like an outsider just trying to fit in.

Join us, Jeremy and Noelle, for your Sunday Night Social Club. 7 - 10 p.m.
